Hey, got a job!

An old one, technically.

The guy who used to work at the Source in Edmonton (Kingsway Mall) now is 'owner' of the one here.

Since I have experience working at this particular store, it kinda makes sense.

While we were at the store yesterday, he mentioned how he was short staffed (like most places in Hinton) and that he just had another person leave. I told him that I would apply, but that I don't like the selling part of the job. (Read: I was kind of joking.)

I said I loved doing the paperwork, doing the order (receiving), and putting away stock, but that the rest of it sucked (selling and customers).

He said he'd hire me to come in, do the order, maybe some paperwork, cleaning. $10/hour.

Freaking sweet.

I start Monday at 10.

Anyway, just figured I'd let you know...

:) Blaine

Let it snow!

(Like we have a choice!) :D

Here's some of what we've been dealing with today...

Crappy Road Conditions.

Whole bunch of snow on my car... Wondering about Chris's on the right? We just got back home from the store...

Here's a pic from about 1130 pm on thursday Sept. 14, 2006. It didn't start snowing until about 9 am. So a little over 12 hours, on a pretty warm day (it was slushing more than it was snowing) where most of the snow than landed melted. Here's what was left at the 'end' of the day. It's still snowing.

How to know when the cat wants to come in. (I told him he wouldn't want to go out in the first place. It was super cute watching him take a step, lift his paw up really quick, put it down, etc...) Sid is an outdoors cat, and it even boggled his mind when I opened the door this morning and he saw the snow... (If cats could go "Holy Crap!", that's what he would have done!)

Even though it looks like he is fogging up our window (if he could, I am sure he would, he's a bit of a brat) he's actually mid-meowrl... a.k.a. "Let me in I am freezing my tiny little kitty tush off!"

I was going to show you pix of the buns I made today, but the picture isn't uploading, I think there is a 5 per post maximum.

Anyway, I have already eaten 2 out of the first batch of 6 that I put in the oven.

I think they need to rise more before they go in (I let it rise as a whole, then, broke them into little rolls, and put them in the oven (after about 35 mins...)

The second batch rose again, wow, that sentence sounds kinda familiar, anyway, and they look like they will turn out better.

Blaine

Weather

It's snowing here.

Is it snowing there?

Hmmmm....

I have been thinking...

(Yes, I know that I shouldn't, I just have too much time on my hands right now)

... You know how most little girls play house and dream about having their own children, homes, families...?

I am starting to realize that it is more an instinct. The side of us that thinks about the money issues, the impact on relationships and lives, that's all conscious thought. The whole "waiting until we're ready" thing.

I would just like to mention that I am 100% sure that

a) I am not pregnant;
b) I have not recently thought I might have been;
c) I do not plan (with OR without Chris' knowledge) plan to be pregnant anytime soon;
d) all of the above repeated again for good measure!

If you think too much about it (and I think most people do these days), you'd probably never have had children. Now, I am more than certain that those of you with children will tell me the pain of childbirth, the pregnancy symptoms, and all of the other 'fun' stuff that comes with kids growing up was well worth it.

But seriously, these days, there is so much out there, and plenty in here (pointing to head) telling people how hard it will be to have kids. The money it takes, the time you won't have. There's articles on how to manage time better. I just think people over think the whole issue.
I would guess that in general, the second time around would be easier.

IF you saved all of the clothing, toys, carseats, etc. You would have all of the hand me downs, and diapers, formula and sleep might be the only thing you'd need. (Although, after the first few years of hand me downs get worn through, I think it would get more expensive: school).

I, of course, have never had children. I speak only from the guesstimation part of my brain. That same part that overthinks everything else, can rationalize babbling about something I have no experience with.

I think I am trying to tell myself that every time I log out of my email account, the articles that pop up aren't 'must-read'. That they don't know everything about everything. That I won't need to have spent hours each week reading articles that vary from the previous month's worth by a sentence or two to be a good mom, when the time comes. That I don't need to read those articles on how to live with people, how to talk to people. That I just need to trust my instincts, open up, talk to people, rather than sitting around watching television. I think I am in information overload.

I have a solution; it's quite a lot easier than most people would think. This is my plan:

Eat simpler. Not every meal has to be a big one. (Simple doesn't mean drive-thru.)
Live simpler. When someone is talking to you, mute or turn off the television. I have learned and am slowly being more conscious of the fact that talking to Chris, my friends, my family, or even just sitting and listening, is better for me than staring blankly at the TV. There is only so much you can learn from watching CSI reruns. Or Simpson’s, Will & Grace, Friends...

And why watch the food network? In moderation is okay, but when I started to watch it every time I turn on the TV...? (Up to 5 hours straight sometimes...) (Warning: strange tangent being taken ahead)

I will admit I am guilty of not really being able to just be. I am not really sure which genre of books I am interested in. I get really frustrated going to the library.

Occasionally, I will find a really great book, and absolutely love reading it. I go to the library to get another, usually check out several books, and end up not reading most of them.

I just don't know what I want to read.

I can honestly tell you I'd never get sick of reading cookbooks. But they have NO PLOT!

I have considered writing a really great cookbook that has a plot of some kind, but just can't seem to put it together.

I've always secretly wanted to be a writer, but can't get past the first few pages of a story. It never develops.

How can I find a bunch of really great books?

I am getting kind of sick of the self help ones, the spirituality ones... I have a few I haven't yet read, so I would like to not add to that list until I have crossed a few more off of the list.

Besides, I have a few more that I have already read, that I would like to read again. Some of those amazing books you find, that you can't bear to just borrow them from the library, you want to have a copy. I have some of those.

I want to set up a little nook in the den. A comfy chair, good natural light, some plants (probably some herbs) a bookshelf, and several good books.

I have everything (except the plants, well, grown ones. I have oregano started, only one seed came up, so far) that I need besides the books.

I don't know what to look for when I go online on the library's book searching page. I usually start with one book I really liked, and then go from there to similar books. Then I get sick of reading the same thing, and eventually stop reading them. If I haven't found anything new, I just kind of stop reading.

I think I need to go through my old books. I have been lugging them around for a few moves, and haven't opened them, and want to know what's in there. I think I will sell my old Stephen King books. I was a huge fan in my pre- and teens, but haven't touched one, or even had an inkling of an urge to, in years.

I want to find my 'Professional Cooking' book and reread it. I also want to buy 'Professional Baking' so I can learn more about baking.

I never get bored going through those books.

Next time I am in Edmonton, I should go to NAIT's bookstore, Reads and Needs, and see if they have any used copies of the baking one for sale, even though I am sure they are scooped up almost immediately.

So, it is late and I was tired before I started this, so I will go.

But first: Please, please, please, leave me any suggestions for book reading that you might have. I would appreciate it if anyone could leave me any titles, authors, anything, even genres you think I'd like to search and see.

You never know, I might just have to take up romance novels if all else fails...

But I doubt it.

TAK.

So. Freaking. Bored.

Oy. I need a hobby. Something I can do, here in Hinton. While I am awaiting news on the job front, I am slowly going crazy.

I am getting bored in the kitchen. (SHHH!!! Don't tell anyone!) I made banana bread, I made cupcakes, I've made a roast dinner, I've made a chicken dinner. We've also had lazy days of KD or hamburger helper.

I made soup out of the leftover roast(from a week ago), and plan to make soup out of the leftover chicken(from a few days ago).

I already printed a bunch of recipes from foodtv.com (all from Good Eats with Alton Brown). I already tried the potato and mushroom au gratin (didn't really like it, but know I could make it better next time). I tried the stuffed mushrooms, which I also didn't really like, but know I could make a little better next time. I have also made Chocolate Ice Cream, finally putting my ice cream maker to good use. We tried it straight out of the ice cream machine, but haven't tried the finished product, yet.

I am out of things to do online, am sick of cooking and baking because of the dishes.
TV is boring. Movies are boring. Chris and I have already gone out to Wildhorse Lake, we also went for a drive down past Cadomin, a town south of Hinton, where we were just kinda driving around. Yesterday we went to Miette Hot Springs, and had a lot of fun on the road there, very squiggly. Oh, and we got a year's pass to all of Canada's National Parks... not very expensive, either, compared to the price per visit.

We basically got there, and turned around and came back. We did, however, stop long enough for me to use the washroom, and to take some pictures of the elk that were in the parking lot.

We saw one that looked quite ill. He had a huge swollen round thing on the right side of his face, looked like a tumour. The left side of his mouth wasn't much better though.

I need a job! At this point it isn't even about the money. I just need to get out of the house! (Besides Chris' brother, sister-in-law, and baby, I don't really know anyone in Hinton... )

I feel great, having gone down in the amount of medication I take from 100mg to 75mg.

Haven't noticed any side effects...

Besides good ones...

Want to see some pictures?

Yes? Okay!

Let me try to upload some...

Okay, the pictures are not freaking working... So, I will try again.

Nope, still not working. Will try again later.

Emailing My Blog

If this works, this will be my first post via email!

Just checking to see if, and how it works...

Yay!

Why can't I be friends with cats?

Well, besides all of the allergy symptoms, there's very obvious symptoms:

Like, for example, my face looks like I decorated for Christmas...

Get it? Red and Green...?

ahem, anyway.

Yeah, this is about 15 minutes after a brief encounter where I scratched the cat, and then washed my hands immediately afterwards. I didn't really touch my eye after that, either.

I guess this means for sure I can't have cats?

Damn.

Going to look into the allergy shots that you can get, find out how that works....

Anyway, just wanted to share this little tidbit of disgusting picture! I promise I will never again post another picture of when I get pink eye, though. Remember?

Although, I guess linking to it is no better...

Oh, well.

If you really don't like my once a year swelled up eye pictures, then don't read my blog once a year. Read it daily! Then you will become accustomed (Read: desensitized) to me and my personality....

Or not.

Whatever.

Anyway...

Does anyone read this?

Hello?

Oh, well, talking to yourself is nice too. Just as long as you don't answer.

What if you do?

Cause I do?

Should I go see someone?

LOL... I am gonna go now. This rambling sure takes a lot of time!

Pictures v 3.6

Oy. More pix. They take forever to upload on here, but it is easier than resizing so I can upload on flickr without going over my monthly limit in 6 pictures.

16. This is a pic I took of Chris hand surfing out the window. It turned out really funky, and I like it better than the ones that did turn out!

The trip home from Cadomin was gorgeous. Even with all the smokiness.

Anyway. Gonna go get some sleep.

Get to go job hunting later! Yay!

ttyl.

Pictures v 3.0

Whew. More pictures...

11. Another picture of Wildhorse Lake. It is much more breathtaking when you're there. Chris and I might go there weekly to have dinner. We'll see.

12. This is a pic of Kinky Lake, which is right next to Wildhorse Lake. Not much to see unless you have a camper. And/or a boat.

13. We went exploring southbound on Highway 40. Towards Cadomin, the coal mines, and an abandoned ghost town called "Mountain Park" where Chris' late grandfather was born. We didn't go as far as the ghost town because it started to get late.

14. A deer on the side of the road. She was obviously enjoying the yellow flowers she was eating, devouring them hungrily. There were another 5 deer behind her, two of which looked as though they'd been born this year!

15. A view of the cement or coal mine near Cadomin. We couldn't figure out which it was, there was a lot of signs for both, it was unclear.

Just a few more pix.

Pictures v2.0

Here's more pictures

6. Once we got all of our stuff in and started to unpack...

7. This sleeping angel is actually a bit of a monster. He takes every opportunity to hiss at me. He also is wreaking havoc on my system. (allergies).

8. I just love that sign. It's hilarious to me.

9. There were a few families at Wildhorse Lake while we were there on Sunday. It was cool to watch the kids playing (these were only 2 of the many that were there). Isn't it gorgeous?

10. Chris was putting out our campfire, and as I was trying to take a picture, the shutter was stuck partially closed. I think it made a pretty funky picture. :)

Probably more to come...
